Approach climb - (Men's 41.5cm) snug, secure, perfect fit. As sticky as a slick climbing shoe, these surprised me with how well they climbed, especially edging and smearing. They have performance comfort for all day climbing belaying. Very sensitive, with moderate front pointing support for a climbing shoe. Enough cushion for rappelling descent on a rockslide with talus large boulders but not so much cushion that they were squishy on small footholds. On my first day in these I led 5.4, then 5.7, then 5.9 all before the mobs arrived at the crag (it was all slabby face-climbing). I had brought my regular slick-soled shoes with the intent to change into them, but i never felt the need. The next morning I took them out for a 5 pitch in eldorado canyon that was mostly around 5.8 with moderately thin footing and again the shoes were perfect. It looks like resoling will be possible in the inevitable event of the rubber wearing thin at the toe. Where I was going for some less technical peak-bagging I would opt for a more protective mid-top boot. They are somewhat ugly with all the yellow streaky crap, but I won't be wearing these around town anyway so it doesn't much matter. They seem to be very tough, but the finish is less than perfect, as there is a place at the front of the lacing eyelets where there ought to be a seam to cover bare foam. This place doesn't touch the foot and is not noticeable unless you open up the shoe and look for it, so I don't mind. All in all, I tend to be very picky, and there is very little I would change about this shoe. I anticipate that these will be a near ideal big-wall shoe!
